Families with students in Wabaseemoong Independent Nation’s Mizhakiiwetung Memorial School are advised that the school will be closed for roughly two weeks - due to complications with the building’s heating system.
Repairs are currently being conducted on the school, as crews are programming a new software update to maintain the heating system. Each classroom has an electric heating coil controlled by a computer, which tells the circuit board when to turn on the heat.
All use of school facilities have been postponed until further notice.
The community is also in the process of demolishing their former school, which had sank into the clay and was later damaged by a fire.
The Mizhakiiwetung Memorial School opened in 2011.
