woodmaureenBMaureen Wood of Island Lake is walking to Ottawa to raise awareness about the dangers of crystal meth.Maureen Wood wants to make a difference. As she walks from northern Manitoba to Ottawa, Wood is talking about her sister, who was able to beat an addiction to crystal meth.

"We were about to have a media conference that day," Wood said, recalling a three-week search for her sister.

Fortunately, a caring family was able to get Woods sister clean and sober.

"She's at home. She's married now. She has a newborn child," Wood added.

The walkers passed through Kenora yesterday, as they travel east along the Trans-Canada. It's a journey of about 2,000 km, and they'll likely pass by Rance Cardinal of Sioux Lookout. He's walking west in support of the Humboldt Broncos.
