December started off with shocking news for Kenora and Sioux Lookout, when two local men were charged in a large child pornography bust across the province.
Tina Chalk, an Inspector with the OPP’s Counter Exploitation and Missing Persons section was part of the investigation.
“The internet can be a great thing, but on the other hand, it can cause so many problems – especially for youth,” she said.
There was also an evacuation of the residents and businesses in the 900 block of Park Street in Kenora after a bomb threat on Thursday December 13.
The threat was part of a larger series of false threats. Police across North America and New Zealand were involved in evacuations related to the wave of threats to businesses, schools and other locations. Authors of the spam emails were demanding payments in bitcoin in exchange for not detonating a supposed bomb.
In lighter news, Mayor Dan Reynard and members of council took office on December 1, and a Kenora paramedic was recognized for his years of dedicated service.
