It is with a great loss of our Mother who started her journey to be with her loved ones, as she passed away peacefully on Friday morning at Wiigwas Elder and Senior Care where she resided and cared for. Mom was 88 years old.
She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Skead Sr. in 1971, parents Alfred Kakeeway and Rosa Simard (Seymour), brothers Paul and Nicklas Kakeeway. Her children Madeline (Evan), Charles and James Skead, granddaughter Alberta Swain (May 4 2024), her nieces and nephews Ellie, Dina, Elaine Favell Lynn Skead, Terry Skead, Pat Seymour, Arcland and Donny Beacham and Tanya Seymour. As well as Michael, Napoleon, Annie, Mary Rose, Sandra, Sandy, Edwin, Sanford, Kaley, Victoria, Douglas, Johnny, Richard, Ronnie, Jimmy Kakeeway, Mary Anne Major (Kakeeway), Albert, Patrick, David, Agnes, Gladys Sr. and Peter Seymour, Marie W., Dorothy and Tom Favell. As well as Tommy, Jimmy, Cecil, Peter White, Lucille Kelly and brother and sister in laws Alex (Elizabeth) and Bill (Julia) and Clifford Skead and many numerous nieces, nephews and cousins Sally Skead and family, Ruthie, Ida, Wanda, Stanley, Patrick, Ida Skead Sr. and family, Kathleen and family, Melanie and family, Caroline White and family, Favell family Merv, Joe and Bob Williamson. We regret if we missed anyone, this was not intentionally done, there are too many to mention as she had a lot of good friends she lost thru the years.
She leaves behind her children Ruth, Charlotte (Maynard), Art (Doreen), Roger (Ruth), Marie (Jacque), Joe (Dianne), James D. Skead (Deer Lake First Nation).
Our Mother was a residential school survivor and lived a courageous lifestyle. She did her best to provide for her children after she lost her husband and she went on to care for her family thru the years, but slowly moved on, Mom had and met her friend Ken Penace (deceased), who was her best friend and also accepted his children and who all loved her and called them her children Esther, Lorraine Adele, Yvonne Penace and adopted son Dwayne Perrault.
Mom was very hardworking in her days looking and doing her best even thru her hardships but hel her strength thru kindness and caring for anyone who needed her.
Mom has several hobbies, she enjoyed sewing and beading and she created beautiful things, she loved knitting and crocheting many items, she also loved her crosswords and suduko, playing cards and doing puzzles.
Mom left us many good things to remember, to always be kind and humble. She wanted the best for her children all of the time, she loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and never to forget the many teachings today.
Mom we love you for just who you are and as a friend, we will carry on as you wanted us to be.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Gareth, Clayton, King, Dion, Lil Joe, Pat and Stan.
A wake service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 12:00pm at Rat Portage Bingo Hall, Rat Portage, Ontario. Elder Peter Atkinson will lead a traditional funeral ceremony will on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11:00am at Rat Portage Bingo Hall with burial to follow.
