Dalles First Nation is welcoming new construction. It's the Ochiichagwe’Babigo’Ining Ojibway Nations new Centre of Excellence for Economic Development.

On May 1, a traditional ceremony was held to mark the start of construction.

Elder Alice Kelley officiated the ceremonies accompanied with drummers and song. The ceremonies included a blessing, feast of bannock, pickerel, wildrice and more.

Chief Cobiness commented, “I would like to acknowledge all the support of the team that made this a reality, Chief and Council, Anishinaabe Custom Council, Bimose Tribal Council, Nelson Architecture, Government of Ontario, Department of Indian Affairs, Allan Luby, the committed of Band Members and more.”

Councillor Fabian Blackhawk stated, “This building will serve as a gathering place, training and education centre, Youth and Elder Tradition Teaching Area, and more for years to come.”

Included in the project is the develop of a conference area, training centre, renovated Band and Health Centre, Youth Elder drop in, youth activity centre, stage and more

Blackhawk commented, “These upgrades and new face lift will highlight many great qualities that will ensure a great future and more modern image (inside and out) with a very nice Architectural touch.”

Chief Cobiness concluded, “We are excited to work with LMD Construction to bring our communities vision to a reality, Miigwetch to all.”
