The Rotary Club of Kenora will hold an "End Polio Now" walk Friday, May 26, starting at 4:15pm. .
Rotary and its partners, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), UNICEF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has been part of the "End Polio" campaign since the early '80s. So far, the campaign has reduced an impressive 99.9 per cent of polio cases, but there are currently five remaining cases.
The goal is to raise awareness of the virus, and to collect funds for the distribution of the vaccination in hopes that the virus is 100 per cent eradicated.
The walk will start off at the Seven Generations Education Institute and go to the Husky the Muskie and back and community members are invited to take part in the walk.
