The Lake of the Woods District Hospital's Ontario Breast Screening Program, Mammothon, will take place this Friday. It'll run from 8 a.m. until 8 at night.
The hospital encourages women to book and complete a mammogram.
Women, aged 50 to 74, should be screened for breast cancer every two years with a mammogram. Early detection of breast cancer through mammogram screenings can prevent cancer to spread, thus giving women a better chance of treating the disease successfully.
In northwestern Ontario, only 62 per cent of women have completed at least one mammogram in a 30-month-period, which is below avereage.
Angela Shussler, from the diagnostic imaging department at the hospital says, "The goal is to have 70 per cent or more of eligible women, between the ages of 50 and 74, complete a mammogram every two years."
Women, who complete a Mammothon mammorgram, will receive a gift bag and be entered to win a gift certificate to Radical Nails in Kenora.
You can book your appointment by calling 1-800-461-7031.
Walk-ins are also welcomed!
