A gathering of friends and family celebrated the 90th birthday for Treaty 3 Elder Nancy Morrison Friday at the Minis Hall in Kenora.

Morrison was even serenaded by hit songwriter Alex Call, who covered the Hank Williams classic 'Hey Good Lookin' for starters, before moving into an original entitled Circle of Friends.

Trouble had a way of tracking us down /

Sometimes it caught us on the wrong side of town /

We survived only because /

We stood by each other that's the way it was /

Our circle of friends /

A residential school survivor, who is alo known also by her traditional name -- Approaching Dawn -- Morrison has been helping those in need on the street for more than 50 years.

Call has written hits for Huey Lewis, Pat Benatar and Tommy Tutone. He also took a moment to lead those gathered for a rendition of Happy birthday.

City councillor Rory McMillan has been active in the community long enough to remember those days -- when segregation and discrimination were much more prevalent in everyday life -- and he brought greetings and thanks, on behalf of council.
