Casey Pyykka is the Community Program Liason for the Kenora Recreation Centre and is being recognized for giving opportunities for all in surrounding communities.
She’s recently won the Red Cross Certificate of Appreciation for organizing a remote trip for lifeguard staff to teach water safety to children in Pikangikum, which was a four-day course.
The program reached 60 participants and offered Red Cross water safety skills and life saving skills with the Life Saving Society.
On top of this amazing achievement, she’s hoping to give even more opportunities to her community!
She’s been approved for grants to get a sledge hockey program going in the City of Kenora, where everyone can participate. Sledge hockey is a sport that allows people of all abilities to participate regardless of any physical barriers.
The grants will help purchase the sledges and kick-start the program, which is anticipated to begin this summer at the Keewatin Area, which provides ice year-round!
We will have Casey in tomorrow on the Q Morning Show just after 8:00am to tell us more!
