In early December, Beaver Brae Public School will be bringing in SAFE International, a self-defence training company to train four teachers to be self-defence instructors so they can provide all students with a basic understanding of both verbal and physical self-defence.
The goal is to eventually get every student who comes through the Beaver Brae doors trained in both verbal and physical self-defence and teach the knowledge to de-escalate situations before they happen. True self-defence starts long before things get physical.
SAFE International has trained over 200,000 people and the program links into the Physical Education curriculum.
With the help of Beaver Brae and the Specialists High Skills Major Program, Copperfin Credit Union, Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (OPHEA) and Indigenous Sport & Wellness Ontario the school is able to hold the training program.
