November is Women Abuse Prevention Month and Women's Shelter, Saakaate House is running a variety of campaigns to bring awareness to violence against women.

You may have seen purple lights shining throughout Kenora, which is part of "Shine the Light". A variety of businesses have shown their support and placed purple lights in or around their businesses in hopes to turn the town purple in support.

They also encourage people in Kenora and across Ontario to wear purple scarves to show the women and children who have experienced abuse that they're not alone. If you would like to purchase a scarf, you can purchase one for $20.00 at Lake of the Woods Brewing company, Rednex Rebellion, Poplar + Birch and Standard Insurance.

They will also be hosting "Nothing Stops Strong", which is a fun strenghth competition.

This will be Sunday, November 25, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Mixed teams are welcome to compete and highlight women's strength and the men that support them. Doors open at 8:00am and the first event will get going at 9:00am.There will be prizes for first, second and third place in two division.
