Four organizations are sharing $4,000 thanks to the Youth in Philanthropy programs at the local high schools.
Students from Beaver Brae and St. Thomas Aquinas each donated $2,000.
Laura McNulty is one of the students involved at TA in the Youth in Philanthropy program and says they had to create a process to decide who to donate to.
“We went and we did a bunch of searches online, for about two or three weeks, just to look at all the different places in Kenora,” explains McNulty.
“We made a list of all the potential places. After we made that list, we did even further research to try and see which ones would best fit our criteria.”
The Alzheimer Society of Kenora and Rainy River District was one of the recipients.
Executive director Rosanna Tomashowski and says they were pleased to be one of groups that were chosen.
“This is a nice surprise and you know, the Youth in Philanthropy had a really difficult decision to make, but with them behind the granting, I think the future is bright for the youth.”
Other recipients were Saakate House, the Makwa Patrol and the Minto Area Parent Child Resource Center.
Youth in Philanthropy is supported by the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation and Copperfin Credit Union.
