Cat Lake passes BCR opposed to mine exploration

The Cat Lake First Nation has passed a Band Council Resolution banning any mining exploration activity in it’s traditional land use area.

The resolution also says any related road building activity is also not permitted.

The chief of the community says the BCR is directly related the Ontario government approving mining permits last week to First Mining Gold Corporation.

Cat Lake says the plan for the proposed mine includes partially draining a trout lake.

Chief Russel Wesley says again Ontario is granting permits for winter road construction and mining exploration in open defiance of Cat Lake First Nation’s wishes.

Wesley says they are appalled that Ontario would again attempt to issue permits despite Cat Lake First Nation’s well documented opposition.

Copies of the BCR have been sent to the premier, the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, the Minister of Mines, Aboriginal Affairs minister Greg Rickford and the company First Mining Gold.
