Four Indigenous communities which make up the First Nations Land Defence Alliance are calling for a meeting with Premier Doug Ford.

The alliance is made up of Asubpeeschoseewagong Anishinabek (Grassy Narrows), Wapekeka, Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug and Neskantaga First Nations, who are concerned over mining development within their traditional territories.

Their request is for a face to face meeting with Ford on September 26th at 12:15 p.m. on the front lawn of Queen’s Park, with a goal of having him sign a declaration of respect for their right to say ‘No’ to mining.

The following day members from all four communities as well as their supporters will march in Toronto calling on the Ford Government to respect their right to protect their lands.

This will mark the third time the alliance has tried to meet with Ford this year, after attempts were made in March and July, where they claim he refused to meet with them.
