The Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation says they have used cadaver dogs on the former St. Mary’s Indian Residential School site.

A total of 22 alerts indicate the presence of historic human remains.

The cadaver dogs were used for three days during the month of August and are part of a project to uncover unmarked burial sites.

The 22 alerts are on top of the 171 anomalies previously discovered on the former St. Mary’s school grounds.

Survivors identified the potential burial sites.

A final report regarding the findings is expected early next year.

The residential school operated between 1897 and 1972.
