Jim Brian Green

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Jim Brian Green at Wiigwaas Elder & Senior Care Home peacefully, with his family by his side.

Jim was predeceased by his parents Bert and Jeanette Green; brothers Graham and Brian. Auntie Ella Green and cousin/sister Vera Sewell. In-laws Edward and Flossie Copenace; sisters and brothers in law Joan Mainville, Tony Copenace Sr., Alfred Sinclair, Rose Greene, and Pam Copenace. Nephews Jeff Hunter Sr. and Lloyd Redsky Jr.; Cousins Hilda and Bob Major, Francine Lee and Julia Redsky. Best friends George Boyd & Del Garneau.

Survived by his wife Pat of 51 years, children Janet, Marion & Heather (Miah); grandchildren Karlee (Sage), Jakson (Gwen), Jaren, Casey and Lindy; Vincent, Marshall, Mitchell, Allysha, Lorne and Daniel; great grandchildren Galaxy, Oaklyn and Kove, who he also had the pleasure of giving them their Anishinaabe names. Siblings Stella Sinclair, Doreen Hunter (Dan), Jennie Greene, Fraser Greene, Sharon Packo (Victor), Warren Greene and Don Sewell, Mary Prozek, Jane Bishop, Norman Copenace (Anita) Joseph Copenace, Tom Copenace (Sandra), Bobby Copenace (Marilyn), Ed Copenace Jr., Gus Copenace, Timothy Copenace, Otto Copenace and Justine Bell (James) niece Marilyn Sewell and nephews Derek and Shane Lemke. Also several nieces, nephews, cousins all close to his heart.

Jim was born in Kenora, where he attended Beaver Brae and he met the love of his life Pat in 1968 and they were married on July 7, 1973 and proceeded to have their family and enjoy life. Jim worked as Director of Education for Shoal Lake 39, where he was instrumental in the building of the new David Kejick School. He then moved to Kenora for employment with OTFS and finally Bimose Tribal Council, mainly in the education department where he was key in the development of Gaagagegiizhig School, sports, music and in the language, our Anishinaabemowin.

Jim was an avid athlete, he shared his love of sports with his wife and family. As a hockey player, he was a top defenseman and played many places across Canada and parts of the US including Calgary, Vancouver and Daytona Beach Florida with many teams including Kenora Thistles, Thunder Bay North Stars, South East Golden Bows and Shoal Lake Flyers to name a few. Jim was also a Champion Golfer, known as the Legend. He represented the province in international competition at the Indigenous games in 2002 Winnipeg and 2006 Denver Colorado. He was also the 1995 Kenora Golf & Country Club Champion and played many tournaments and skins games locally and in Manitoba.

Services for Jim will be held at David Kejick School in Iskatewizaagegan (Shoal Lake 39) on Monday, March 4th, 2024 beginning at 11:00am and Funeral on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024 at 10:00am with interment to follow at Lake of the Woods cemetery in Kenora.
