Akwaywatung ~ John Fobister
August 20, 1950 – February 23, 2024

John Fobister passed away unexpectedly on February 23rd, 2024 while he was out exploring the land and river like he often did.

John is survived by his children Lois Stoll, Deborah (Mike) and George (Amy) Landon, Keith Fobister, Karen and Kathy Fobister, and the mother of his children Katherine Fobister. John had 25 grandchildren that he loved very much, giving some of them their Anishinaabe names, and 4 great grandchildren with another on the way!

John had many extended family members being from a large family, close friends and some that he considered and called family. Family and friends meant so much to him, being a part of his life and good times as what he would say.

He loved music, he could jig and square dance and often won contests. He loved the outdoors and all it had to offer, having lived off the land growing up, and owned a trapline. He had many experiences guiding, commercial fishing, being band council, mining, and keeping busy over the years with his own tourism business.

John was predeceased by his son John Ed, parents Dennis & Bridgette Fobister, sister Josephine, brothers Alex, Gabriel Sr., Jakob Skead and other family that had gone before him.

The wake will be held in Grassy Narrows First Nation on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 starting at 2:00 p.m. at Agnes Fishers Building, with the funeral to follow on Wednesday March 6, 2024 with burial to follow.

Your forever in our hearts. We love you.
