Jim Lindsay
(Gwiii-chanch), Migisi do’dem

September 24, 1947 – March 13, 2024

It is with heavy hearts the family announce the passing of Jim Lindsay at the Kenora Lake of the Woods District Hospital on March 13th, 2024.

Born in Kenora, Ontario, Jim grew up and lived with his family at 12 Mile Portage on the Lake of the Woods. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping, blueberry and wild rice picking and spending time with family. Jim also worked as a guide at various tourist camps on the lake.

The family would like to share one story of him as a boy. Gwii-chanch was instructed by one of his uncles to check one of the traps set in the area of 12 Mile Portage and to bring it back to the cabin. After a couple hours, he had not yet returned and the uncles began to worry. Just as they were about to set out to check on him, Gwii-chanch came into the cabin and said he had brought the trap back and that it was hard to do. They all went out to check the trap and to everyone’s amazement, Gwii-chanch had indeed brought the trap back but still caught in the trap was a live porcupine. The porcupine had been putting up a battle and unwillingly, being pulled by Gwii-chanch back to the cabin. The family was happy and grateful Jim did not get injured and the animal was set free. This story always brings a smile to the family.

Jim is predeceased by his parents Alfred Lindsay and Alice Lindsay (nee John), his uncles, Joe John, Alex John, Pete John and Charlie John and cousin Stephen Hill and his brother Peter (Go-go) Lindsay.
