John Philip (Phil) Walsh
May 15, 1938- March 25, 2024

On Monday March 25th, after an unexpected medical emergency, Phil Walsh, a lifetime resident of Keewatin, passed away peacefully at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

Phil was predeceased by his parents, John and Eva Walsh; his sister, Irene Joy; his brother, David Walsh; and his partner, Edna Jackson.

Phil will be fondly remembered by his children: daughters, Jackie Hinrichsen (Dan) and Jana Kuemper (Jason), son, Bryan Walsh (Janice), his cherished grandsons: Mathew Hinrichsen, Jordan Hinrichsen, Zakry Walsh, Graham Kuemper and Mitchell Kuemper, sister-in-law, Audrey Walsh, nieces and nephews, Stacy, Amanda and Christopher.

Phil will also be remembered by Edna’s family: Marion (Angela, Walter, Melissa, Ryan, James), Michael & Tami (Kirkland), Melodie & Gerald, Andrea, Eric & Cindy (Erica & Kane, Andrea, Aren), Patricia, and Dorothy & Kevin (Kendra, Nicole).

Phil’s greatest joys were his grandchildren. He actively followed them all in every sport and club they participated in. Phil lived his whole life in Keewatin. In his early years, he was actively involved in Kinsmen (and later K40), baseball, curling, and coaching Mighty Mights with Keewatin Minor Hockey. He worked at Lindstrom & Nilson Hardware Store and Kenora Motor Products, and then 30 years for Ontario Provincial Correctional Centre at the Kenora Jail. In retirement, Phil was active with the Historical Society (Mather Walls), St. James Anglican Church and New Horizon Senior Centre-Keewatin Branch. He was an avid crib player, loved his jigsaw puzzles and having coffee at Vet’s, and being the “bingo” caller at Park Place. Phil followed all sports but was a dedicated baseball and Blue Jays fan.

The family would like to thank the staff in the emergency department at the hospital for their wonderful care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers a donation to New Horizons Senior Centre- Keewatin Branch (18 Mike Richards Way, Kenora, ON P9N1L2), would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
