Barry was born on New Years Day in Kenora, Ontario. He was raised in Wabaseemoong & Minaki growing up. He started traditional Pow wow dancing early as a child right into adulthood, he was well known in the powwow circle across turtle island. He also played in hockey tournaments across Canada in his youth, then continued locally as a young man often playing the goalie position. Barry often expressed how amazing his childhood was thanks to the devotion of his loving parents.

He was also a talented beader, regalia maker and artist. His drawings were very detailed. Barry was very patient and thoughtful when he was creating things, always took his time to make sure he made something he was proud of.

He loved his boys & great-great nieces & nephews so much. He found joy in playing guitar, going fishing, hunting and joking around with friends & family. Barry will also be remembered for his generosity, his beautiful smile and most of all for his storytelling. He could tell a story that would make you wonder if it was made up out of thin air, a joke, or something that really happened. He was gifted with amazing creativity, its one of the traits that made Barry so special to all of us. Also for the way he could bring a smile or laughter to your face in the most unexpected moments.

Being a father was his greatest experience in life. He talked with his sons for the last time 3 days before his passing and expressed his love & gratitude to them. He was a blessing to have known in this life and will be deeply missed by everyone whose hearts he touched.
