The Northwestern Health Unit has issued a warning about potentially hazardous opioids.

There have been a number of overdoses witnessed in Kenora and possibly the Dryden area.

Officials say there has been an unusual pattern of extreme drowsiness among users of meth which may or may not be related.

The Health Unit says it does point to possible changes in the unregulated drug supply in the area.

In the Kenora area the drug is described as “blue and green down fentanyl” and results in a zombie like walkt and the users have no recollection of what they took.

Health officials says the drugs may be contaminated or laced with opioid drugs that increase sedative effects, increasing risk of death.

The Health Unit says its working with harm reduction clients to alert them to any change in the unregulated drug supply in the area.
