Peacefully with her family by her side, Elisabeth Maria Simpson, a resident of Kenora, passed away on April 14, 2024, at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, at the age of 72 years.

She is survived by her children Carolyn Elisabeth Lacroix (husband Rob Lacroix) and Steven Ross Simpson (partner Camilla Bird), grandchildren Austin Aurele and Emma Elisabeth Lacroix.

She was predeceased by parents Maria Wilhelmina Petronella Johanna and Rudy Boekhout.

Elisabeth, better known as OmaNanny, Lis or Elmy, was born in Saint Laurent, Quebec where she grew up enjoying the outdoors and getting her hands dirty playing in the family business greenhouse. To raise her family, Lis eventually settled in Mono Mills, Ontario and more recently moved to Kenora to be close to her grandchildren. Lis loved life in Kenora, watching her grandchildren play sports, visiting the beaches and anything associated with the lake.

Lis was a person whom you met once and you were changed forever. Her passion for life radiated through her smile and words. One couldn’t help smile when in her presence. Always putting someone else’s needs before her own made Lis the incredible person she was. You’d never go hungry, be thirsty or be without comfort when she was around and she’d always make sure to throw in a humorous anecdote or two. Her pursuit of adventure lead her all over this globe, but family and water is where home was. Her strength, determination and courageousness is something to aspire to.

Lis is leaving a void in this world, but will forever fill our hearts. Always missed, but never forgotten. Mom’s famous last anecdote: “I’m still standing.”

In accordance with Lis’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
