It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lillian Brown in the morning of April 18th, 2024 at the age of 83 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

She is survived by her children Ann Marie (James), Dawn (Jeff) and Dennis (Victoria), her grandchildren Angie, Jessie, Roberta, Andrea, Tara Lynn, Kelsey, Cheryl, Cassidy and Cambrya, her 13 great grandchildren, her brothers Donny (Jean) and Dean and her partner Dave Larocque.

She was predeceased by her parents, Roy Caul and Winnifred McClenghan, her brothers Alvin and Lynn and her beloved dog Tilly.

Lillian was born in Fort Frances in 1940. She grew up and started her family in La’Vallee before moving to a race horse farm in Caledon and then the Mando Logging Camps where she came to love the serenity of the bush and the great outdoors. She moved with her family to Kenora in 1972 where she worked at the Holiday Inn, the fiberglass plant and then Safeway before retiring.

Lil was an avid outdoors woman who enjoyed hunting, blueberry picking and fishing, sometimes with a drink and cigar in her hand. She was an avid curling fan which she both participated in and watched; everyone knew not to disturb Lil when a curling match was on tv.

Lil loved her family and her last wish of seeing her three children before passing was fulfilled. The times she treasured most were those spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lil liked to keep busy. She enjoyed preparing large family dinners and making preserves and she put all her love into her homemade bread and pizza buns which were enjoyed by all and sometimes fought over. She was a talented quilter and her beautiful quilts, pillows and wall hangings that took hours of painstaking stitching and attention to detail to create will always be treasured by those who loved her.

Right up to her last day on earth, Lil was determined, strong willed and brave. The love she had for her family will be forever missed and never forgotten. Lil was very much looking forward to being reunited with Tilly.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff of the Palliative Care unit at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital for their care and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care unit of the Kenora hospital would be appreciated.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will occur.

You are forever in our hearts and we know that you have not truly left us for you are now an angel watching over us.

“Someday we’ll meet again…
Someday whenever the spring breaks through
You’ll come to me out of the long ago
Warm as the wind, soft as the kiss of snow…”
(“Somewhere, My Love” by Andy Williams)
