Peacefully with her daughter Joanne, grandson Royika and her nieces Darlene, Candice by her side that we are deeply saddened to announce that Maylee took her last breath, a very loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and a very good friend on May 1, 2024 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

Maylee was a resident of Wiigwas Elder and Senior Care, was born in One Man Lake and was raised and lived in Wabaseemoong First Nation with all of her family.

Maylee will be welcomed by her family at the golden gates of paradise by her parents; Ida and Jim Bunting, grandparents Jacob and Annie McDonald, sister Josephine Bunting, brothers; George, Norman, Gordon, and John F. Bunting, uncles Cornelius, Simon, George Sr., aunts Grace, Henry and Alice Fisher, nieces and nephews Hushie, Annette, Elizabeth, Allison and Barrett, cousins Art, George Jr., Cyrena and Sharon and grand-niece Andrea Cedarwall.

Maylee will be forever missed by her daughter Mary Joanne “Mayleeance”, her pride and joy, who she called Kwi’zance, grandson Royika, her only sibling James “Chiimiss” Bunting, nieces and nephews; Rocky (Gretchen) Bunting, Darlene Henry, Harvey (Santina) Bunting, Brandon (Judy) Bunting, Jennifer (Mike) Hunter, David (Cheyenne) Bunting, Adrian (Melanie) Bunting, Ronnie Bunting, Harvey (April), Darrlee, Elaine (Jared) Kejick, David Kejick, Ramona (Ron) Councillor, Valene (Cullen) Bunting, Candice, Joni (Candy), Jazanne (Shubhan), John Jr., and Jeonni Bunting.

Maylee was also privileged to share her knowledge to her next generation of family, passing down our language to; Terry, Roxanne, Rocky Jr., Kyle, Rochelle, Baby Rocky, Dee, Jewel, Myles, Dennie, Kyler, Autumn, Kaylie, Kylie, Colton, Logan, Brandice, Brandy, Celeste, Brennan, Dallas, Lakeisha, Egan, Emery, Errol, Avery, Valentina, Alana, Fayla, Adrianna, Alliah, Abby, Ariaha, Brody, Alyssa, Renae, Julie, Clyde, Veera, Jaymee, Brave and Prince Bunting.

Maylee was a family person, she had a special bond with her sister-in-laws; Suzie Bunting and the late Jessie Bunting, she also adored her step-children; Lilian, Howard, Mark, Martin and Martha Carpenter.

Maylee loved the outdoors where she loved to pick blueberries with her mom and family, she went for walks in the bush trails and her favorite family thing was making tea at bon fires. Maylee played card games with family and friends. She was a cheerful lady where she loved laughter, pranking her nieces and nephews, joking around with family. She was a very supporting family member. Her hobbies also included sewing, chopping wood, wild rice picking with her mom, spending quality time with her grandchildren who always cherished Maylee’s love. Maylee was the one of a kind daughter, sister mother grandmother and aunt. We Will Always Miss You.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Wiigwas who provided unconditional care and love to Mary. To Wabaseemoong Band and Leadership for their support … and a very special Thanks to very close family friends who always stepped up to help Maylee’s needs Colleen Paishk and Dora Cameron. To our Elder George Land who will Journey our Maylee, and at last to the family that showed up to be with Maylee at the hospital.

A wake service will begin on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2:00pm at Whitedog Community Hall. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 10:00 at the Whitedog Community Hall with interment to follow in Whitedog First Nation.
