The Toronto-based law firm representing a former Thunder Bay chief of police is awaiting further evidence before returning to court.

A member from the law firm Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP was present over Zoom for the first appearance in court on behalf of Sylvia Hauth and her lawyer Scott Hutchison.

The case was adjourned quickly with the reading of charges waived, and a request for further disclosure of evidence by the defence over the coming weeks. This was approved and the case will be back in front of a judge on June 18.

The former police chief is facing four charges in total stemming from a widespread investigation into claims of misconduct within the police force.

The Ontario Provincial Police announced the charges on April 12.

Over the next month, the crown will be disclosing evidence to Hauth’s lawyers from HHR LLP in Toronto.

Hauth is the third former or current member of the force to go to court over allegations of false or misleading statements.

Former Thunder Bay police lawyer Holly Walbourne and staff sergeant Micheal Dimini are also facing charges in separate trials.
