Self-cleaning washroom still experiencing technical difficulties

It could be another two months before the self-cleaning washroom in downtown Kenora is ready for use.

Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Greg Breen they trying to resolve some technical issues.

“There’s rumours that parts are broken, the door is broken, there are panels have been removed…none of that is true,” Breen reported to city council recently.

“The washroom is intact.  We’ve never had any issues with the doors or anything.  It’s strictly a programming issue to make sure all the sensors are working properly.”

Breen adds they’ve gone back to the manufacturer to try and work out some of the technical issues that continue to plague the self-cleaning washroom.

“We’re working through getting those alarms when someone stays in there and our most recent round of testing…we’re very close.  We just have a couple of tweaks.  We’re trying to get through that and hopefully it will be opened up in the next six or seven weeks or so.”

The self-cleaning washroom was actually delivered to the city back in December.
