An Australian company is building a downstream battery materials processing facility in Sudbury.
This facility will allow Canada to develop a domestic battery supply chain for electric vehicles.
Wyloo, owned by millionaire Andrew Forrest, is a company that handles minerals and materials that help with decarbonization.
They came to an agreement with the City of Sudbury and announced their plan at the Battery Electric Vehicle conference last week.
The new facility will produce low-carbon nickel sulphate and nickel-dominant pCAM, key ingredients for EV batteries. Nickel will be supplied by Wyloo’s proposed Eagle’s Nest mine in northern Ontario.
Sudbury was chosen as the facility’s location because of its leadership in the mining sector, its initiative to use clean technologies, and its commitment to Indigenous reconciliation with First Nation communities.
The construction timelines and exact location have not yet been released.
