Pride flag raised at city hall

About 100 people braved the rain and took part in the Pride flag raising at city hall.

Co-chair of Kenora Pride Andrea Campbell says the Pride movement has really grown over the past couple of years in Kenora.

“The smaller town Pride’s are really nice because it’s like for members of the community who don’t see each other all year, to come out of their cozy homes and become loudly gay for the month,” Campbell said after the flag raising ceremony.

Campbell adds the whole flag raising ceremony is really meaningful.

“The flag raising is more to do with the acknowledgment of human rights and standing up for our more marginalized people.”

June is Pride month and Campbell says Kenora Pride has a number of events planned, including a parade and a cabaret.
