$20,000 of illegal drugs taken off the streets of Sandy Lake First Nation

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service has prevented roughly $20,000 of illegal drugs from being distributed in Sandy Lake First Nation.

Early Wednesday morning NAPS officers executed two search warrants in the community.

During the search, the drugs along with cash, an imitation firearm, and drug trafficking paraphernalia were seized. Two people were also arrested without incident.

As a result, a 33-year-old Sandy Lake First Nation resident is facing the following charges:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of hydromorphone (opioid) for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

A 46-year-old Sandy Lake First Nation resident is facing two charges:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Both the accused have been released with conditions and a future court date.
