Both the Nishnawbe Aski Nation and Grand Council Treaty #3 have released a joint statement about the death at Anicinabe Park in Kenora last week.

Bruce Frogg was shot by an OPP officer last Tuesday afternoon and the matter is now in the hands of the Special Investigation Unit.

NAN and Treaty #3 says the SIU investigation looks at actions of the police and is often narrow in scope.

They say the investigation may not fully address many broader and significant systematic issues.

The Indigenous groups suggest too many confrontations with police end with violence to First Nations people, and our leaders are frustrated and angry.

They go to say they expect a full accounting of exactly what happened.

Frogg, a 57-year-old Wawakapewin member, was living in Kenora when he was shot on June 26, 2024, in Anicinabe Park,
