Kenora Fire department and KDSB to ink deal

Kenora Fire and Emergency Services will soon have an official agreement in place to provide ambulance assistance.

In the past, the fire department provided ambulance “assists”, but there was never a formal agreement in place with the Kenora District Services Board.

Fire chief Dave Pratt says this new agreement was drafted with the help of doctors in a large Toronto hospital.

“The appendix is written as such that we can investigate it every six months…once a year, to see whether we’re going to the right calls.  Sunnyside Hospital doctors, those are the ones who determine our staff in response can make a difference,” Pratt told the Committee of the Whole meeting of city council this week.

These include cardiac arrests, respiratory arrests and ambulance delays.

Fire fighters can also respond when their assistance is requested by ambulance personnel.

The fire department says it’s may not be able to respond to all ambulance requests, due to competing interest, like fires.
