Work to fix up and assess the Portage Bay Bridge in Keewatin will be taking place all next week.
Dave Mellor is the General Manager of Engineering for the City and says this is to help the council decide what needs to be done to the aging structure.
“The Portage Bay Bridge will be undergoing it’s detailed enhancements,” Mellor told council this week during the open meeting.
“So as council remembers, that was part of a feasibility study. We’ve hired a consultant to show us the best rehabilitation plan for that structure.”
A final report on the Portage Bay Bridge is expected in January.
The price tag to fix up the bridge, or replace it altogether is not cheap…anywhere from $10 million to $30 million.
In the meantime, the bridge will be off limits to traffic and pedestrians while the work takes place next week.
As well, street lights along the bridge and the south shore will be turned off during the work.
