The All Nations Health Partnership is putting more resources into attracting health care professionals to Kenora.
Dr. Jilly Retson is co-chair of the Health Care Recruitment Committee and says they hired additional staff to their team.
“We have hired a second recruiter this past year, in the anticipation of the need to ramp up in 2025,” Retson told Kenora city council recently during budget consultations.
Retson points out in the past year they have been successful in attracting a number of medical specialists.
“Over past year and looking into 20205, we’ve been able to recruit two general surgeons, two full-time emergency physicians, one anesthetist and one full-time pediatrician working in KCA (Kenora Chiefs Advisory) First Nation communities.”
Retson suggests they would have more success recruiting new doctors if the Ministry of Health approves their Rural Generalist model for the Kenora area.
The City of Kenora contributes $40,000 a year towards the health care professional’s recruitment effort.
