Bloc Quebecois looks to bring down Trudeau government

The Bloc Quebecois will begin talks with other parties to try and bring down the Trudeau government.

It comes after Tuesday’s deadline for the minority government to pass two Bloc-tabled bills came and went.

One bill would see a 10 per cent increase in Old Age Security for Canadians aged 65 to 74. The other would exempt dairy, poultry and eggs from future trade negotiations.

Leader Yves-François Blanchet said his party will now vote against the government on non-confidence motions.

Blanchet said by refusing to pass the two bills despite the support of all parties in the House of Commons, the government has turned its back on seniors and farmers.

The leader added his party would not rule out supporting the Liberals again if the government passes the two bills, “but in the meantime, they are seriously in danger to fall.”

The Trudeau Liberals have already survived two non-confidence motions put forward by the Conservatives earlier this fall.

The Bloc needs the support of both the Conservatives and the New Democrats in order to topple the government.

While the NDP ended its supply-and-confidence deal with the Liberals in September, the party has said it would support the minority government on a vote-by-vote basis.
