Another forest fire breaks out near Eabametoong First Nation

A new forest fire has been reported in the region.

Nipigon Fire 40 is burning roughly 16 kilometres east of Eabametoong First Nation.

The 0.2-hectare fire is being held.

The First Nation community is also dealing with Nipigon Fire 39 which broke out on Sunday and is burning 9.6 kilometres north of the community.

The 0.2-hectare fire is being observed.

There are currently 29 active fires in the region. Four fires are being held and 25 are being observed,

The wildland fire hazard is mainly high to moderate across the Northwest Region, but Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Fort Frances and Thunder Bay have significant areas of high fire hazard.
