A forest fire is burning out of control in Northwest Ontario.

The fire is located south of Batwing Lake and about 62 kilometres east of Thunder Bay.

Water bombers and a birddog plane tried to drop water on the fire while ground crews tried to set up a defensive.

But by last night, the fire had grown to five hectares in size and was burning out of control.

10 other fires in the region but they’re either under control or being observed.

The area of Thunder Bay is an extreme forest fire hazard zone. The far north regions are moderate to low, and most of the southern part of the region is a high hazard zone.
