More Canadians will now be able to receive dental care.
As of November 1, the Canadian Dental Care Plan has expanded its services and is accepting request for services that require preauthorization.
Federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault made the announcement on Friday, on behalf of Health Minister Mark Holland.
It means, patients can get service for things like partial dentures or crowns, or request service for a complex condition.
The plan will also begin accepting paper claims.
The country wide plan hit a major milestone, with more than 1 million Canadians who have received care and more than 2.7 million approved.
Minister Mark Holland says in a statement, “In just six months, more than one million Canadians have received care through the Canadian Dental Care Plan. That is one million stories of Canadians getting dental care for a healthier, better life. Eight-nine per cent of oral health providers are already delivering care though the Canadian Dental Care Plan, and now with expanded services and paper claims, even more Canadians will access better, more affordable health.”
The feds say, once fully implemented, the plan will make oral health care more affordable for up to 9 million Canadians who do not currently have health insurance.
The plan started May 1.
