A teen in B.C. has the country’s first case of Bird Flu acquired within the country.

Officials are trying to determine the source.

B.C. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said she they’ve reached out to a lot of people who were recently in contact with the teen.

“That is one of the reasons why I have confidence that we, at this point, have not identified anybody else that is sick with this virus in British Columbia right now,” said Henry during a news conference on Tuesday.

Health officials are still trying to find out how the teen contracted the virus in the first place.

Experts say there’s no sign that the Bird Flu would cause a pandemic, but Health Canada has three vaccines ready to go if necessary.

However, health officials say people should avoid any contact with dead or sick birds.
