The OPP says crime in Kenora has a lot in common with Sioux Lookout, Dryden and Red Lake.
Regional Commander Bryan MacKillop says these communities are servicing the same types of people utilizing our services.
“Common themes? Basically that they are social service hubs for the larger area, where people come to Kenora for social services, for harm reduction services”, MacKillop says following a meeting of the Kenora Police Services Board on Thursday.
“We have our district jail here, medical services are here, so they do come to take advantage of those types of services.”
MacKillop adds that they have been speaking to the LCBO for some changes that will reduce local calls for service.
“That concept like dealing with agencies like the LCBO or a host of other agencies, its really about striking at what is the root cause of the issues that we face as a society and as a community and by default as a police agency.”
MacKillop points out there is good news as there are a number of agencies in Kenora that have banded together to tackle the issues of crime and disorder.
