ArtsFest taking place Saturday

By Tim Davidson Jul 14, 2023 | 10:28 AM

The Lake of the Woods Arts Community is holding its annual ArtsFest this weekend.

Shauna Degagne is one of the organizers and says for the second year in a row it will be held in Memorial Park beside the Museum.

“ArtsFest is really a chance for the community to come together and experience art in all it’s forms,” explains Degagne.

“So it’s about bringing joy to the community for one day.”

Degagne adds that it also gives artists a chance to show off their wares.

“Another great part about Arts Fest is it’s an opportunity for local artists to come and show us what they have been up to and also just to sell their art.  So if you want to come down and support an artist, that’s a great way of doing it.”

Admission is free but donations to help LOWAC will be gratefully accepted.

The traditional Waubshkih Gaubaawiik drum will lead the opening ceremonies, with prayers by Elder Jeanette Skead of Wauzhushk Onigum at 10 a.m.

Main stage performances include harpist Olivia Whiddon, Jada’s Children’s Music, soloist Ted O’Flaherty, and The Sunday Mornings (Missy Jacobson and Peter Welch) folk duo.

The Nish Deva Fashion Show will also be taking place around 2 p.m.

KidZone will also have hands-on arts and crafts including flower crowns and face painting.

Scheduled activities include Nature, bugs, and butterflies: making art with nature led by Vic Moss of Mosswood Adventures at 9:15 a.m., and an interactive pottery workshop hosted by Aimee Baldwin of Moon in June Studio at 2 p.m. Susan Bulman will be leading watercolour painting throughout the day.

ArtsFest will take place on Saturday from 9 am until 5 pm.
