Byron Rory Jack “Atik Dootam”
February 4, 1972-January 20, 2024

With his eldest son by his side Byron Jack a resident of Kenora, ON passed away suddenly on January 20, 2024 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 51 years.

Byron leaves to mourn his sons Anthony Jack and Adam Mamakeesic. granddaughter Jacyntha. Parents Effie Jack and Stepfather Earl Wilson. Aunties Jane Tom, Mary Jack and Uncle Tom Jack, sisters Josephine Jack (Jay Sr.), Maggie Sinclair (Patrick Sr.), Marilyn Jack (Lamont), Christine Jack-Mandamin (Joey), nieces and nephews, Jay-lynn, Jaycey (Darcey), Jay Jr (Shania), Jayde Kent, Janelle, Patrick Jr, Marlon Sinclair, Marvin, Barrie, Bryan, Elycia Skeid, Kristen (Northwind), Tristen (Patricia), Heather and Jasper (Jaymee) Mandamin. Byron’s forever brothers whom he grew up with Harvey Bunting, Darnell Jack and George Jack, great nieces and nephews, cousins too numerous to mention.

Byron was predeceased by his grandparents Charles and Agnes Jack (nee Katcheconias), brother BJ and sister Aggie Jack, aunts and uncles, Betty Tom, Adeline Sandy, Margaret Jack, Charles Jack, George Jack and Madeline Noname.

Byron was affectionately known to a-lot of friends and family as “Uncle B”. Byron was born and raised in Kenora where he attended school at Beaver Brae and Lakewood, in his teen years the family moved to Winnipeg, MB where he then attended Gordon Bell. Eventually Byron moved to Sioux Lookout where he attended and completed his high school. Byron then moved back to Kenora and started working in commercial fishing with the Bald Indian Bay boys until his rheumatoid arthritis got the better of him. Byron was a Winnipeg Jets fan and proud father to his 2 boys with whom he spent time and dedication raising on his own.

It was a huge comfort to know Byron spent his last days with his son’s Anthony and Adam. Also, the joy of his life, his granddaughter Jacyntha whom he was very proud of, although it may have been a short time in the end, the comfort was there knowing he was well taken care of by his son’s.

The Family would like to express their gratitude to the Winnipeg Paramedics, Doctors and Nurses at Grace Hospital for their tireless effort to save Byron. Cory Jinkerson and Staff at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Anishinaabe of Naongashiing – Big Island. Friends and Family of Byron for their continued support through this difficult time.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Jack, Parnell Jack, Harvey Bunting, Darnell Jack, Charles Jack, Arnold Hamilton, Joey Mandamin and Earl Wilson.

Honorary Pallbearers are Brianne Mousseaux, Bill Halverson, Vince Jamieson Jr, Danny and Dennis Skeid.

Wake Services will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the Super 8 – Minis Hall beginning at 1:00pm. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the Super 8 – Minis Hall at 1:00pm with Pastor Frank Kowal officiating with cremation to follow.
