KCDSB projects a surplus for 2024/25

The Kenora Catholic District School Board is projecting a small surplus in the next school year.

Superintendent of Business Services Alison Smith says their overall budget is just over $34 million.

“It’s a combination of both revenues and expenses, so it’s not necessarily one determining factor,” explains Smith.

“It’s all just a projection and draft at this point, but just the way we’ve anticipated our expected revenues coming in and our planned expenses, that’s the projection for the annual surplus.”

Smith says did factor in utility and software increases into their budget.

“We kind of do an analysis for each of our locations of what the utilities are.  Because some of our utility rates at Red Lake at St. John School, for example, would tend to be a little bit higher than some of our schools in Kenora.  So, each school has its own review done for utility costs.”

They also put in a 1.25 percent increase in teacher salaries, even though the final salary arbitration for the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association hasn’t been decided yet.
