Band member of Iskatewizaagegan #39 First Nation

We sadly announce the sudden passing of Adrian Rodney Mandamin at Thunder Bay Health Sciences Centre, with his family at his side. He was 38 years old.

Adrian was a loving husband and a dear father. He resided on 40 side with his wife Monique and their four children. He was born in Kenora, and grew up on Shoal Lake #39. He attended high school at Beaver Brae, and later worked as a housing construction worker, which he loved doing. He also attended the Fort Qu’Appelle Bible School in Saskatchewan. In 2010, he married his love Monique. They first met as teenagers at a gospel tent service, then later in life he confessed his love for her, saying he had loved her the whole time, and they’ve been together for sixteen wonderful years.

He loved his children very much, his daughters Kylie, Shantae and Myla, and his son Tyrin. Weekend trips, family game nights, boat rides, movie nights, trips to the beach and many other special memories will live on in our hearts. He loved his Lord and Saviour, he would lead his family in prayer, and read his bible.  He would pick up a guitar in our living room, and start singing I saw the light, and would stomp his foot as he sang. He was kind and tender hearted to all.  He also loved to fish, he would go with his mom and dad at times, and hunt with his buddies, he took his children on their first hunting experience. He was also a fishing guide for Shoal Lake Lodge, which he called his dream job. He loved being out on the lake, rain or shine. There was a time when he bought himself a new yellow raincoat and matching yellow rain pants for fishing, he was proud of it, so he tried it on and came out to the living room and asked his daughters, “Well my girls, how do I look?” his daughter responded, “Aw, daddy, a rubber ducky”. He could not stop laughing.

Adrian loved to laugh. He was always cheerful. Bringing smiles to everybody.

As a youth, he played for the Treaty Three All Stars hockey team. In high school he played for the Beaver Brae Broncos football team, and the basketball team.  He was an excellent teammate, always had a positive attitude. He also loved to golf, he invited his dad out on Father’s Day, and Adrian said to his dad “Ok dad where’s your visa?” his dad laughed about it, and paid for their tee time. Adrian would help his dad set a net out on the ice, where he learned to fillet, and worked hard chopping ice. Another activity he enjoyed was playing video game with his buddies, and Super Mario with his children.

His children filled his heart with joy. He loved each and every day with his family.

Adrian is survived by his father Roderick Mandamin and mother Louise Mandamin, Brothers Chris Zarecki, Bruce and his wife Miranda, Jeremy and his wife Dale, Luke and his wife Diane, sister Rochelle, brother in law Dwayne and his wife Trina, sister in law Melissa, and his mother in law Nellie.
