28-year-old Timothy Kent has been released on a $500 bail with several conditions after his court appearance Thursday in Kenora.

Kent is the accused involved in an aggravated assault on March 19 on Second Street South, where one person was found with life-threatening injuries and remains in the hospital.

After the Crown’s initial proposal for Kent’s release conditions, Justice of the Peace Geordie McEwan called for stronger conditions to be imposed – noting the severity of the alleged assault.

“If these allegations are true, you are lucky to not be standing in front of us with murder charges,” McEwan stated during the proceedings.

Kent’s bail conditions take effect immediately and include him not having access to a weapon defined by the Criminal Code of Canada, notifying the Kenora OPP of his address and any change of address within 24 hours, not making contact with the victim and 7 others and to check-in with the OPP weekly.

While attending court virtually from the Kenora District Jail, Kent could be heard exclaiming “Yes! Thank you!” repeatedly throughout McEwan reading his release order.

After the Crown withdrew some of his charges on March 22, Kent is now facing one charge of Aggravated Assault and is scheduled to appear back in court on April 6 at 9 a.m.

The OPP notes the victim is expected to recover and be released from the hospital soon.
