Lakeside Live seeks MAT funding

Kenora city council meet Tuesday night and one of the items on the agenda is funding for Lakeside Live.

The electronic dance music festival was held for the first time last year.

Dominique Loewen is one of organizers and they asking the city for additional funding from the Municipal Accommodation Tax to help stage it this summer.

“Between the quality of speakers, additional lighting, and LED walls, as well as more special effects that we are required to bring to the stage, our production costs have gone up quite significantly this year,” Loewen told Kenora city council during a recent deputation.

“In order to attract a number of these major international artists we are required to meet their technical production requirements which is why we’re seeking financial support from the city of $10,000.”

Loewen says they had about 500 people turn out for their inaugural one-day EDM music festival under the Jarnel Contracting Pavilion last summer and expect at least 800 this year.
